Cerrada Ceremonies

~Closing the Bones~
A Cerrada or ‘Closing the Bones’ ceremony is a traditional Mexican ceremony for postpartum Mothers. Many cultures have their own versions of this post partum ritual demonstrating the universal importance of this sacred process.
Birth opens all facets of a Woman’s being. To ensure health and wellness on all levels, Cerrada’s create a safe container to close the birth space, closes the hips of the pelvis along with the ligaments and muscles and ground the spirit here on the earthly plane.
There are different parts to this ceremony, each with significant meaning and purpose. The Mother is bathed with herbs & flowers & sung too. She then receives different forms of body work & is finally wrapped in rebozos (traditional Mexican shawls/scarfs). This full process brings her body, mind and spirit back into alignment and integrity.

This is also the perfect opportunity for Mothers to reflect on their birth & post partum journey. As part of this ceremony Mothers are given the space to share about their experience of birth and will be held in a safe container as they delve into these potent and often vulnerable aspects of their story.
